Operation Lifesaver, Inc
Rail Safety education makes California communities safer.

CAOL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public safety organization committed to reducing the number of tragic incidents at highway-rail grade crossing intersections and trespassing at railroad rights-of-way. By making free Operation Lifesaver presentations to all age groups and to various professions (bus drivers, professional truck drivers, law enforcement, and first responders), our organization educates the public on how to make good decisions around railways in order to stay safe and alive. Supported by group-appropriate visual materials, videos, and brochures, these presentations encourage the citizens of California to become active participants in the rail safety of their communities. In 2008, our certified presenters gave 900 presentations to 29,500 people and spoke to approximately 47,000 more at 216 community events throughout the state.

California Operation Lifesaver is more than a federally funded not-for-profit entity. We rely on the support of private citizens and corporations, state and local transit organizations, and our energetic team of volunteers and members, all of whom have the CAOL mission statement at the heart of their dedicated participation: to eliminate, through Education, Enforcement and Engineering, collisions at grade crossings and on privately owned railroad property.
